Gift Aidbritish-ukrainianaid.orgThis year, British-Ukrainian Aid is directing funds raised through Freedom Run towards critical medical and humanitarian aid in Ukraine, and towards essential prosthetic and rehabilitation care — including prosthetic limbs and facial prosthetics — for former Ukrainian defenders living with life-changing injuries.
For years, British-Ukrainian Aid has supported the Ukrainian organisations and clinics doing this work on the ground: delivering prosthetics, physical rehabilitation, and recovery through sport. That last part matters more than it might appear — training, competing and simply moving again is often the point at which a defender stops thinking of themselves as a patient and starts planning a future: returning to work, to study, to their family, to independence.
This October, former Ukrainian defenders will join Freedom Run in Greenwich Park. Having received prosthetics and rehabilitation through organisations supported by British-Ukrainian Aid, they will run to send a clear message to others in Ukraine facing the same difficult journey: an injury can change your life, but it does not have to define it.
Every pound raised shortens someone’s wait — for a limb, for a course of physiotherapy, for the medical supplies that keep a rehabilitation centre running.
